It has been a very peculiar year for most of us. I look around the world and closer in on the nation I reside in (United States), and I see signs of strain, oddity, and divisiveness the likes of which should, were I a sane and rational man, make me tremble. Yet, I don't; I say to you good folks, life is good.
Today marks a year that I've been on Substack, and while I was slow and inconsistent in my postings at first, I have grown to appreciate this platform as an outlet for my genre fiction works, and a spectacular one at that. The user interface is clean and easy to use for a less than tech-savvy fellow such as myself, the option of scheduling out posts is exceedingly helpful for hectic writers like myself, and the plethora of fascinating, informative and entertaining Substacks to subscribe to and peruse as a reader make this a lovely place to call my online workshop.
Some months back, I produced in chapter-by-chapter format my very first full-length novel that is EXCLUSIVE to this Substack, a novel titled 'Ganges'. It was a labor of love, writing that book, but falling so far afield of the works I usually brought to my long-suffering publishers, Booksforabuck and Untreed Reads, I wasn't sure where to publish it. I'd self-published before, but that didn't feel right at any point either, because I wasn't so much interested in making money on the book, as getting it in front of an audience.
Enter Substack.
And God bless it.
There have been some who have come after Substack as a platform, attempting to stir up trouble because of who they allow to use the space- anyone. Frankly, I think that's commendable. Substack provides the tools and the space to create, steps back, and says "Be free. Express thyself." We all as writers benefit from this liberty. Others, including some fellow Substack writers, have pointed at the advances and big-money deals a tiny handful of writers have gotten and cried foul, but I would point out that the potential is there for anyone to make the most of what Substack has to offer. Even a niche guy like me.
I just wish Stripe wasn't the only payout option; I've been trying to deal with a technical snafu with them for months now to no avail, so I can't collect from my lone paid subscriber's payment. I'll get it figured out, though, eventually.
More original tales will be coming along in this space, once I've finished sharing some of my older material here. As a matter of fact, if you want to get a step ahead of some readers, head on over to either Barnes and Noble's website or www.booksforabuck.com and grab a copy of "Strange Camp Fellows" now; in a couple of months, the heroes of that tale will he returning for another Tamalarian Tale adventure....
Right here, at Substack!
Thank you to everyone who keeps reading.
