As happens every now and again, I'm entering a period where I'm not going to be posting here to my Substack as frequently as I have been. This is nothing against my handful of loyal and regular readers, and is not a form of burnout, so no worries there, friends. It's simply that I don't have a work selected as the next piece to be released via the newsletter, so I have nothing scheduled.
That's perfectly standard for me, though. Ask anybody who knows my working habits and they'll tell you, I have brief 'quiet' stretches where my output slows to a crawl. This typically means I'm burning the candle at both ends with drafting and editing, in preparation of launching several endeavors at once. That's true here.
As one example, I was recently invited to be a Contributing Writer to the Howard Bloom Institute, a collective project established and anchored by the titular Mr. Bloom himself and his concept of omnology, the curious pursuit of various forms of knowledge. I'm an odd duck of a fit, given the advisory board's and Bloom's backgrounds in science, and my own in the arts. But curiously, Bloom doesn't dismiss the value of arts in pursuing knowledge and fostering intellectual curiosity and experimentation, which is an unfortunate habit of many serious scientific academics. Any ro', I've been invited to provide some observational essays to the Institute, which is a tremendous opportunity for me to lay out some non-fiction, philosophical pieces that I might usually avoid putting together here, since what I am known for, if anything, is telling genre fiction tales.
Those non-fiction pieces won't appear here, but I will link to them when they release, so there won't be missed chances to take a peek at what goes on in my head.
It isn't pretty, but should entertain in its own way.
And don't fret, there will be more fabulous fantasy and wholehearted horror coming again here. I'm just not sure yet when. Until then, though, why not check the archives for pieces you may have missed? "Ganges" could always use a few more reads.
Cheers!
